Equity Investment Solutions - IPI in San Antonio Texas

Equities offer attractive opportunities for long-term investors and are central to a diversification strategy that seeks to maximize portfolio performance while reducing risk. Much of equities’ utility is due to their historical ability to produce returns over the long haul that outpace rising prices. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, since 1945 the purchasing power of the dollar has declined in value every year except 1949 and 1950. Since the mid ’80s, inflation has been in the 2%-4% range and 1.7% in 2012.

Stocks have historically provided higher returns than other asset classes. If your time horizon is over 10 years, stocks may provide the best potential for returns that exceed inflation. According to Standard & Poor’s, between 1926 and December 31, 2010 the annual return for a portfolio comprised exclusively of stocks in S&P 500 was 9.93% – well above the average inflation rate of 2.99% for the same period.

When helping you choose investments, your IPI financial consultant will calculate a real rate of return that factors in inflation.

Sixty percent of baby boomers won’t be able to maintain their current lifestyle without continuing to work, 60 percent of older boomers already suffer from chronic health problems, and by 2015 there will be 21 million single 51- to 70-year-old boomers – over twice as many single households as the previous generation had at the same age.

Based on your investor profile, once you are sufficiently diversified at the asset class level – into cash, fixed income, stocks and real estate – your financial consultant may suggest further diversifying within the equity sector into small-cap, mid-cap, growth and value stocks or mutual funds.
